AUS - Autoritarismusskala

AU

Authoritarianism Scale

Author(s) / Creator(s)

Dalbert, C.

Abstract / Description

The AUS is a self-evaluation scale with seven items for measuring authoritarianism for research questions. Reliability: Cronbach's alpha in the construction sample was alpha = .64, in another study alpha = .83. Validity: Single factor models with uncorrelated residuals were estimated. The model was accepted, which led to a reasonable estimation of the data and in which the variance of the latent factor was significantly different from zero. In the construction sample, the single factor model led to a very good reproduction of the empirical variance-covariance matrix. The expected positive correlations between authoritarianism and Just World Faith as well as the expected negative correlations between authoritarianism and uncertainty tolerance were shown in four studies. The authoritarianism scale is independent of the tendency towards socially desirable response behaviour. Another indication of construct validity could be the connection to the political orientation of the respondents. In line with expectations, the voters of the party "Die Grünen" had a lower authoritarian value than the voters of the more traditional SPD. Due to the specific socialization conditions in the former DDR, higher authoritarianism values were to be expected in an East German compared to a West German sample, which were actually observed.
