Abstract / Description
The PEKS measures individual expectations of political competence and influence. The two scales (1) Internal Political Efficacy (IPE) and (2) External Political Efficacy (EPE) with two items each reflect the two convictions of political efficiency. Reliability: Reliability (according to McDonald's Omega) varies between Omega = .83 and .92 (IPE) and Omega = .69 and .72 (EPE). The retestreliability of IPE was significantly higher than that of EPE. Validity: As expected, the IPE showed high correlations with measures of political interest (r = .69), political participation (r = .48), general self-efficacy (r = 45), and internal control (r = .41). In line with the theory, the EPE showed positive relationships with trust in political institutions. Moderate effects were found in relation to several socio-demographic and socio-economic measures, e.g. educational level and gender. In addition to the relationship to participation variables, a correlation between the IPE and personal net income was also found. Here the PEKS shows moderate substantial effects (r = .30). Norms: Reference values (M and SD) are available, separated by gender, age group and educational level.
